Journey's End Ministries at 205 S. River St., Newcomerstown, had a successful and record-breaking year in 2016.
The organization served 3,068 families totaling 10,054 family members. They made 30,200 visits for food. 104,513 individuals received approximately 9 meals each for a total of 940,617 meals provided. Other statistics show that they delivered around 90,000 tons of food --that's 180 million pounds of food!
The ministry prides itself on its ability to turn one dollar into approximately 33.33 pounds of food for needy families. Therefore, instead of individuals and organizations donating canned food items, they should consider a monetary donation instead --no matter how small. As you can see, even a donation of $1 in pocket change (at 3 cents per pound of food) can help to make a difference in a child's life.
Over 60 volunteers poured their hearts into serving the less fortunate in 2016. Included were families from 86 zip codes and 21 counties who tell the ministry, almost daily, how grateful they are for the little extra help and groceries are in the lives.
In their clothing area, Journey's End continued to give away free clothing and other miscellaneous items.
Janet Gore, the organization's director, said, "We are very thankful that our clients continue to give back in donations. This helps us to keep us moving forward." Gore continued to say, "The generosity of our community for those less fortunate is amazing. We are very humble to be able to serve as God has asked in his words, 'clothe and feed my sheep.'"
Journey's End Ministries recently received a generous $1,000 grant from Walmart; a wonderful way to begin 2017.
