NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Voters in Tuscarawas County who live within the Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District overwhelmingly approved the five-year, 7.7-mill renewal levy for emergency operating expenses during last Tuesday's special election.
The issue passed, 377 for, 194 against, in the county.
Only voters in the Monroe-Wheeling precinct (Guernsey County) that are part of the school district voted on the issue, rejecting it, 14 for, 24 against.
The issue failed in Coshocton County, 20 for, 20 against. A tie results in failure of an issue. Issues are not subject to recounts.
"I'm thrilled," Newcomerstown Schools' Superintendent Jeff Staggs said about the levy passing. "It just says a lot about the community and how they feel about the education of their children."
