The Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce continues to make strides in the betterment of the Newcomerstown community.
The "chamber," as it is commonly referred to, has been busy over the past year serving the community through its many projects.
Some of those projects include: Organizes the Health and Safety Expo, sponsors a Cy Young Days Festival scholarship at the queens' pageant, organizes community yard sales, sponsors the Cy Young Run during the Cy Young Days Festival, provides a golf outing for area golfers, sponsors merchants' trick or treat, provides and organizes Toys for Local Tots, sponsors the Newcomerstown Christmas Parade, provides a tree for the Christmas Wonderland on Olde Main Street, just to name a few.
In 2012, the chamber will be organizing a new Christmas light contest. The contest will award prizes to those houses or businesses that have decorated their house exceptionally well for the holidays. More details on this contest will be forthcoming.
The chamber also prides itself on welcoming new businesses to the community. A special "Welcome Wagon" Committee has been organized to invite the business owners into the chamber. The newly-opened business is welcomed with a special gift on behalf of the organization.
The chamber is also working closely with the Newcomerstown Bicentennial Committee in promoting the village's 200 birthday celebration in 2014. Meetings are held once a month and volunteers are encouraged to attend.
The 91st annual Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet is set for Wednesday, May 2 at the David Barber Civic Center in Newcomerstown. The banquet highlights the accomplishments of the businesses in the community, as well as recognizes a Veteran of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Teacher of the Year, and Chamber Member of the Year.
The chamber officers for 2012-2014 include: Jeff Neidig, president; Pat Cadle, first vice president; Becki Allen, second vice president; Niki Wolfe, secretary; and Gary Chaney, treasurer.
The group meets the third Monday of each month at noon. The location of the noontime meetings rotate between April's Country Kitch'n, Dick's Place and Cy Young Lanes.
