Feinstein Challenge

It is spring so it must be the Feinstein Challenge to help promote donations of food and money to Journey's End's food pantry. The promotion continues through April 30. All food donated during this period will be counted as a $1 donation per can and that along with cash donations will be counted toward a portion of the Feinstein funds that are sent out to all participating churches and food pantries. Help by donating during this period.

Journey's End Ministries is open to accept food donations on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 to 11 a.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m.

Retirement luncheon

Kurz-Kasch's retirement luncheon will be May 9 at 11:30 a.m. at April's Country Kitch'n in Newcomerstown. All retirees are asked to come. For questions, call 498-8207.

Chicken barbecue

ORANGE -- A chicken barbecue is set for Saturday, April 28 at the Blue Ridge Grange in Orange. Serving starts at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $7.50 for adults and $4.50 for children under 12. Carry-outs are available. Everyone is welcome.

Free workshop

A free workshop on "How to protect your home and savings if you or your loved one end up in a nursing home" will be offered at Newcomerstown Public Library.

Discover how to protect your home, how new laws restrict protection of assests, and how Medicaid works.

This class will be offered Tuesday. May 1 at 11 a.m. at the Library Annex. Contact the library for questions at 498-8228.

Golf outing set

St. Paul's United Church of Christ's golf outing will be Saturday, May 19 at Hickory Flats. Shotgun start at 9 a.m.

If register and pay by May 1, the cost is $200, after that its $240.

Craft show set

A Relay For Life Craft Show is set for May 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Newcomerstown. There will be lots of venders, food, silent auction, door prizes that each vendor has supplied, and 50/50 drawing.

Chicken barbecue set

STONE CREEK -- The Stone Creek Volunteer Fire Department will be having a chicken barbecue at the Stone Creek Fire Station on Saturday, May 5 from 4 p.m. until sold out. Cost for chicken only is $5. Cost for dinner is $8 and includes chicken, two sides, roll and drink. Dine-in or carry-out. Chicken provided by Blacksheep BBQ. All proceeds benefit the Stone Creek Sirens projects and Stone Creek Fire Department.

Retirement dinner

The Newcomerstown Teacher Association will be having its annual retirement dinner on Saturday, May 5 at 6 p.m. at Dutch Valley Restaurant.

Any Newcomerstown retiree wishing to attend may call the high school at 498-5111 for information or to make reservations.

Yellow Flag sales

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce announces the dates for upcoming Yellow Flag Community Yard Sales. Spring dates are May 4 and 5 with the sign-up deadline at Brother's Hardware and Variety Store on or before April 25 for media maps and April 28 for in-house maps which will be available at various locations in the village.

An eat stand is also being provided by the First Baptist Church, 688 E. Main St., West Lafayette, on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 during the yard sales.

Computer class

Newcomerstown Public Library will be having a final beginner's computer class from May 14-18. The class will run from 1 to 4 p.m. daily. This class is filling up quickly, so if you are interested, call the library to reserve a seat at 498-8228.

Stamp Shoppe class

The Stamp Shoppe is offering a free class on the second Friday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Melody and Motion School of Performing Arts, 11072 Wolf Station Road, Newcomerstown. In the class, students will learn how to use rubber stamps for card making, scrapbooking and paper crafting. More classes are available at a fee.

Library board to meet

Regular meetings of the Newcomerstown Public Library Board of Trustees are the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Library Annex.

Projects sought for community service

COPS (Community Outreach Project) is hoping to help Newcomerstown area residents with home repair and maintenance.

Unfortunately, they are not able to do lawn care on a regular basis, but they are looking to help people make minor home repairs in their homes.

They are willing to do inside repairs during the winter months.

Christ's Kitchen

Christ's Kitchen, located in the Fellowship Hall of the Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown, serves dinner from 4 to 6:15 p.m. every Monday. The dining room is open from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The meal is free but donations are accepted.

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Bob Pell's Nationwide Insurance office, located at 117 N. Bridge St., Newcomerstown, is a new collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Items may still be donated at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, also in Newcomerstown. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
