Quilting in museum

The Newcomerstown Quilting Bees will be working on the Community Quilt in the Temperance Tavern Museum every Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. All are welcome to help.

Ice cream social set

The Blue Ridge Grange in Orange will have an ice cream social on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Serving will start at 4:30 p.m. There will be sandwiches, baked beans, homemade noodles, salads, desserts, ice cream and drinks. The facility is handicap accessible and has air conditioning.

Library changes

Newcomerstown Public Library is eliminating its VHS movie collection. During the week of Aug. 13-18, patrons will be able to come in and select some of your favorite movies to add to your home collection. A small donation would be appreciated when you make your selections.

Scholarship available

KIMBOLTON -- The Kimbolton Homecoming Festival Committee will be presenting a $250 scholarship to a post-secondary student who lives in the Kimbolton area (43749 zip code) during the festival which will take place Aug. 25-26. Applications are located at the Kimbolton Post Office. The deadline for submitting an application is July 31.

Bicentennial

meetings

The next Newcomerstown Bicentennial Committee meeting is set for Saturday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. in the community room at Newcomerstown High School. All are welcome.

Computer classes set

Newcomerstown Public Library will be offering another free basic computer course. The class will run from Aug. 6 to Aug. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. Call the library at 498-8228 to register if you have not already taken this class. Seating is limited and going fast.

Kimbolton Homecoming set

KIMBOLTON -- The Kimbolton Homecoming celebration is set for Aug. 25-26. A chicken barbecue, parade, raffle tickets, 50-50 drawing, car show, square dance and yard sales are all planned. The square dance will be Saturday, Aug. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. and will feature Rod Bradford and Buddies.

Farmers market continues

Newcomerstown Farmers Market is up and running for the season. It takes place every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Newcomerstown Library parking lot. Enjoy fresh local produce and baked goods. You will also find assorted crafts, jewelry, soap and candles.

Yard sales in village

The Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce's annual village-wide yard sales are set for Aug. 3 and Aug. 4 in the village. To have your address listed in advertising, call 498-4545.

Christ's Kitchen

Christ's Kitchen, located in the Fellowship Hall of the Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown, serves dinner from 4 to 6:15 p.m. every Monday. The dining room is open from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The meal is free but donations are accepted.

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Bob Pell's Nationwide Insurance office, located at 117 N. Bridge St., Newcomerstown, is a new collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Items may still be donated at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, also in Newcomerstown. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
