Drinking fountains installed at Cy Young Park, Newcomerstown

Published:

The Newcomerstown Recreation Board received a grant from the Tuscarawas County Community Foundation for the purchase of three drinking fountains at Cy Young Park.

The new fountains replaced fountains throughout the park that were over 25 years old and not functioning very well or not all. One of these fountains is handicap accessible and located near the children's playground area to allow availability of water for all.

The Recreation Board consists of five volunteer citizens who monitor the operations of the park and pool, and currently are Greg Bowman, Jeff Davis, Phil Murphy, Dr. Rick Roe and Nicole Styer.

Park Supervisor is Steve Lower. Board members were assisted by Pat Cadle, Newcomerstown West School principal, in the application process. The park consists of swimming pools, basketball, sand volleyball and tennis courts, a baseball field, children's play areas and pavilions for community gatherings and events. The park is the focal area of many activities throughout the year.

The Tuscarawas County Community Foundation is a community endowment fund that accepts monetary donations and bequests of any age. Those funds are managed by a volunteer board and the profits are used to support projects that will improve the lives of Tuscarawas County residents. The Newcomerstown Recreation Board is very grateful to the foundation for their generous donation.
