In a special meeting that lasted less than ten minutes last Monday, Newcomerstown Village Council voted to retain Fiscal Officer Kim Meek on a temporary basis until a permanent replacement can be hired.

Village council approved Meek to work up to 15 hours a week at a rate of $15 per hour in order to keep up with paying bills, payroll, council meetings, typing minutes, etc.

Meek said she would be able to work the part-time hours after her other job ends and on the weekends.

It was at the Nov. 5 Newcomerstown Village Council meeting that Meek announced her resignation which is effective Nov. 16.

"I think we need to do something and she's been kind enough to do it on a temporary basis," councilman Dave Hickman said.

Last Monday was also the deadline to have all internal applications submitted for the fiscal officer position. However, none were submitted.

Therefore, council voted to advertise the fiscal officer position as a part-time position due to the financial situation of the village.

Council's next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the David Barber Civic Center, Newcomerstwon.
