The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1968 celebrated its 45-year reunion with a two-day event on July 12-13.
On Friday evening, a cookout was hosted by Jim and Wendy Swigert Schumacher of Schumacher Farms. The Schumachers and committee members provided the food for the evening. Forty-one people were in attendance including 26 class members.
On Saturday, July 13, "The Main Event" was held at the Newcomerstown Olde Main Street Museum and Social Center.
The theme for the evening was "Our Place in History" linking the reunion to the upcoming Newcomerstown Bicentennial celebration.
Decorations for the evening included photo displays of kindergarten pictures, past reunions and Newcomerstown landmarks and famous residents. The color scheme was the school colors of orange and black. Favors were "NHS Class of 1968" notepads. Jane Kopes served as the mistress of ceremonies. Dan Styer offered the invocation and Kathy Riley McNutt presented a memorial tribute for twenty deceased class members. Judy Barthalow Goettge gave a financial report, and Jim Russell spoke briefly about the Thomas R. Little Memorial Fund. Tom Little was a member of the class of 1968 and a contribution is made to the fund for each deceased classmate. A trivia power point presentation was composed by Jim Russell, Randy Addy and Kathy Ervin Osler.
Schumacher Farms catered the meal.
Forty-eight people including twenty-nine class members attended the Saturday evening event. Former teachers in attendance for the events were Dennis Belle, Charles Derewecki and Linn Loomis.
The committee members for the reunion were Kathy Ervin Osler, chairperson, Jill Addy Little, Randy Addy, Judy Barthalow Goettge, Linda Bernardo Stevens, Gary Bryan, Jane Kopes, Kathy Riley McNutt, Jim Russell, Carol Schlarb Swigert, Dan Styer and Wendy Swigert Schumacher.
The class would like to extend a special thank you to Bill Casteel for his "Class of 1968" display at the museum.
