School Board begins 2017 with running start

The Ridgewood Local School District Board of Education met Friday, Jan. 6, to begin the New Year with the Budget Hearing, an Organizational Meeting, and a Regular Meeting.

The meetings began with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present. A Tax Budget Hearing for Fiscal 2018 commencing July 1, 2017, was approved to be submitted for consideration to the County Budget Committee.

The Budget Hearing was followed with the Organizational Meeting. Officers and Committee assignments for the 2017 calendar year: Board President: Marty Feldner; Vice President: Cathy McCrea.

Standing Committees: District' Student Achievement Liaison: John Riebesell; Building and Grounds: John Riebesell and Marty Feldner; Athletic Council: Marty Feldner and Frank Mathews; Certified Negotiations: John Riebesell and Cathy McCrea; Policy Committee Appointees: John Riebesell and Cathy McCrea; Records Commission: Marty Feldner; District's Legislative Liaison: Cathy McCrea; Finance Committee: Helen Leindecker and Frank Mathews; Insurance Committee: Frank Mathews and John Riebesell; Classified Negotiations: Helen Leindecker and Marty Feldner; Wall of Fame Helen Leindecker; Coshocton County Career Center Cathy McCrea.

The following Board Organizational Meeting items were approved:

Resolution #17-02 Establishing Time and Place of Board Meetings. All meetings will be held at the Administration Building at 301 S. Oak Street, West Lafayette, Ohio 43845. A Finance Committee Meeting takes place 15 minutes prior to the Regular Board Meeting.

Resolution #17-02 Establish Service Fund

Resolution #17-03 Waiving the Reading of Board Records

Resolution #17-04 Designating the Coshocton Beacon and Coshocton Tribune as official newspaper outlets and WTNS official radio station for the district.

Resolution #17-05 Surety Bonding for Board President, Board Vice President, Superintendent, and Treasurer.

Resolution #17-06 Authorizing Professional Meetings for the Superintendent, Treasurer, and Board of Education Members.

Resolution #17-07 Authorizing the Superintendent/Treasurer to apply for and participate in all appropriate federal, state, and other programs beneficial to the district and to file the required application and reports.

Resolution #17-09 Authorization Advance on Tax Settlements

Resolution #17-10 Amended Certificate of Estimate Resources

Resolution #17-11 Borrowing Funds as necessary

Resolution #17-20 Purchases within the restrictions for normal operations not to exceed $15,000.

Approval of Tax Budget for Fiscal 2018.

Regular Board of Education Meeting Commendations:

Recognized Board of Educations members with Certificates of Appreciation during Board of Education Appreciation Month.

Recognized Ridgewood Local School District Treasurer Jay Tingle for the Ohio Auditor of State Award

Approved the Treasurer's Report; Finance report, Payment of Bills, and Transfer of Funds to the Schoolwide Pool Fund.

Approved the Superintendent's Report:

Updated Substitute List.

Classified employment of Jo Mizer as bus driver retro to December 5, 2016.

Updates on Legislative items.

Old Business: Discussion on Bus Garage

Updated on the High School Media Center with a discussion on upcoming renovations.

The next Regular Board Meeting will be Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Administration Bldg., 301 S. Oak St. West Lafayette.
