Members of the Newcomerstown Board of Education recently met on Feb. 13, for a regular Board session. Nine students were recognized as Student of the Month, they are Rosita Rodriguez-Duerson, First Grade; Weston Boltz, Second Grade, Maggie Collins, Third Grade; Jamie Warmoth, Fourth Grade; Dawson Harvey, Fifth Grade; Jacie Tedrow, Sixth Grade; Sam Brode, Seventh Grade; Kaitlyn Sanders, Eighth Grade; MacKenzie Hursey, NHS Senior.
The following items were discussed, and/or approved by the Board:
Due to changes in the CCIP from the Ohio Department of Education, federal funds were re-allocated for 572 Title 1 program with a re-allocation of $922. The total with the re-allocation is $759,467.
Tuition reimbursement was approved for Wendy Rummell, Walking for Fitness, 3 semester hours, Fresno Pacific; Paul Miller, Marjorie Hursey, and Janel Travis, Google Tools in Education, 3 semester hours (for each person), Walsh University.
Board approved membership for the Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce at a cost of $50 for the 2017 calendar year.
Board approved Open Enrollment for Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District for 2017-18 school year. The applications will be available at the Superintendent's Office beginning March 15 and must be submitted no later than April 15.
Board approved the 2017-18 school calendar. The school year begins Aug. 21 for teachers, and August 23 or students. There will be a three-day Thanksgiving break, an eight-day winter break, and a five-day spring break. The school year will end May 30, 2018, for students, and May 31, 2018, for teachers.
Spring sports schedule for 2016-17 was approved.
Rachel Cathey, In-School Suspension Teacher was approved for an increase in the rate of pay to $100/day, effective for Jan. 1, 2017.
The following teachers were approved as After School Intervention/Test Prep Teachers for 12 one-hour sessions, at $40 per session: Pam Romer, Third Grade Reading; Denise McDonnell, Third Grade Math; Matt Davis, Mark George, Fourth Grade Reading; Regina Schilling, Fourth Grade Math; Fawn Filippis, Fourth Grade Social Studies; Walt Cerrato, Fifth Grade Reading; Katrina Miller, Fifth Grade Math; Angie Cabot, Fifth Grade Science.
Steven Pritchard was approved for full stipend as Science Fair Director, Resolution #77-16.
Mark Lane, resident educator, first year, approved to mentor with Michelle Schneider.
Board approved the resignation of Cheryl Bordner Instructional Aide, High School, effective for Feb. 28.
Board approved employment of Cheryl Bordner as Budgetary Assistant effective March 1.
Board approved the resignation of Joanna Popadak, Pre-School Aide, West Elementary, effective for February 16.
Board approved the transfer for Tommi Watson, Instructional Aide, High School to Media Center Aide, High School, effective for March 1.
Board approved resignation for Tom Addy, Assistant Track Coach, effective for January 23, 2017. This item was voted separate with Tom Addy abstaining vote.
Chase Addy was approved as Varsity Assistant Track Coach, a stipend of $2,119. This item was voted separate with Tom Addy abstaining vote.
Ashley Wheeler was approved as Junior High Track Coach, a stipend of $1,513.
Bob Hartline, Tom Addy, and Don Stevens were approved as volunteers for Track for the 2016-17 school, pending BCI background checks.
Abbey Mast was approved as Varsity Volleyball Coach, a stipend of $3,027.
Jamie Lewis was approved as van driver for Newcomerstown Schools.
The next regular Board session is scheduled for March 20 at 6:30p in the High School conference room.
