American Legion Post 431 has selected Calvin Ringer, a junior at Newcomerstown High School, to participate in American Legion Buckeye Boys State, an eight-day intensive education program on Ohio government for high school students, where each participant becomes a part of the operation of a mythical 51st state local, county and state government.

At American Legion Buckeye State, participants are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective, practical and nonpartisan with city, county and state government operated by students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band, and recreation. High school juniors are selected by local American Legion posts.

American Legion Buckeye Boys State will be held June 11-18 on the campus of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
