Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce High School Leadership Award recipients announced

Ten area high school seniors were honored recently at the 18th annual High School Leadership Awards luncheon sponsored by the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce at Georgio's Grille at Bolivar. The award recognizes one senior student from each high school in Tuscarawas County based on outstanding leadership, good citizenship, and service to their school and community.

The ten recipients were:

Hali Mehok, daughter of Chad and Kim Mehok of Dennison, was selected by the staff at Buckeye Career Center. She plans to attend the Adult Education Dental Assisting program at Buckeye Career Center.

Makana McGuire, daughter of Craig and Michelle McGuire of Dennison, plans on attending the University of Akron to major in biochemistry, with the hope of attending medical school after completing her bachelor degree.

Megan Smith, daughter Tom and Melissa Smith, will graduate from Dover High School with plans to attend The Ohio State University to pursue a degree in biology before attending medical school to become a pediatrician.

Ty Hamsher, son of Bruce and Jocelyn Hamsher of Sugarcreek, will be attending Mount Vernon Nazarene University majoring in business administration following graduation from Garaway High School.

Amanda Fowler, daughter of Natalie Fowler of Port Washington, will graduate from Indian Valley High School. Her future plans include continuing to serve others by pursuing a career in nursing at Kent State University at Tuscarawas.

Alexa Delaine Ansel, daughter of J.T. Ansel and Amy Lewis Ansel of New Philadelphia, is a member of the Class of 2017 at New Philadelphia High School. She plans to attend Kent State University to first obtain a bachelor degree in nursing and then further her education to become a nurse practitioner specializing in women's health.

Kathryn Montgomery, daughter of Jeffrey and Mariann Montgomery of Newcomerstown, plans to major in environmental, freshwater and marine biology at Ohio University following her graduation from Newcomerstown High School.

Henry Malcuit, son of Mark and Andrea Malcuit of Strasburg, will attend the University of Akron majoring in business administration after graduating from Strasburg-Franklin High School in preparation to work for his family business.

Katherine Churilla, daughter of Randy and Carol Churilla of New Philadelphia, is a member of the Class of 2017 at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School. Her plans after graduation include attending college to earn a degree in biology to work in health care with a goal of becoming an audiologist or occupational therapist.

Elizabeth Hutchison, daughter of Jerry and Betsy Tucker of Bolivar, will graduate from Tuscarawas Valley High School. Following graduation, she will be attending Kent State University's College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability, and Technology to obtain a bachelor degree in computer engineering with a minor in manufacturing.
