Morgan HealthMart Pharmacy in Newcomerstown will be having a hearing screening and ear wax clinic on Thursday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. The free service is provided by Beltone. Call the pharmacy to sign-up.

Spaghetti dinner

The Cuba Connection Team of Christ United Methodist Church will be hosting a spaghetti dinner as a fund-raiser on Saturday, May 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. Bluegrass music will be performed by the Chestnut Hill Band from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 children and children 5 and under eat free. Newcomerstown's Cy Young Days Festival is scheduled for June 26-28 in the village. A new queen's competition will be June 25.

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The West Lafayette First Baptist Church, 688 Main St., West Lafayette, will be having a spaghetti dinner on Friday, May 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Menu includes spaghetti, Italian bread, dessert and drink. The cost is $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12.

U.S. Census workers

The News has learned that U.S. Census Bureau workers may be or have been in the village of Newcomerstown requesting information from residents. The Newcomerstown Police Department wanted residents to be aware.

Country music in Kimbolton

KIMBOLTON -- An afternoon of country music will be presented Sunday, May 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kimbolton Community Center. Mabel Pollock will start the program at noon followed by Rod Bradford and Friends at 1 p.m. The Foraker Band will entertain from 2 to 3 p.m. and then Jesse, Elaine and Charlie will take the stage. Baked steak and chicken dinners, sandwiches and desserts will be available at noon. This event is open to the public with no admission charge.

Rural Life Sunday planned

DOVER -- Pomona Grange of Tuscarawas County would like to invite everyone to Rural Life Sunday on May 3 at 8 p.m. at the Brandywine Center on old State Route 39, Dover. This is a time when we give thanks to the farmers and what they do and a time to reflect on water and soil conservation and protection of natural resources.

The message will be given by Pastor Paul Houdashelt. There will be a short memorial service for the past Grange members we lost this year. Refreshments will be served.

DOVER -- There will be a free hearing clinic for those ages 0 to 21 at the Tuscarawas County Health Department, 897 E. Iron Ave., Dover, on Wednesday, May 6.

The clinic is to evaluate hearing, speech and ear problems.

Child/infant CPR course

NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Muskingum Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross will sponsor a CPR for child/infant course on April 29 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Participants will learn the updated 2005 guidelines for child/infant choking, rescue breathing and CPR. Fund-raising at JEM

Journey's End Ministries is participating in the annual national Feinstein Challenge which encourages fund raising for food pantry programs. All contributions from March1 through April 30 will receive matching donation from the $1,000,000 fund designated to be distributed. Contributions can be brought or sent to Journey's End Ministries, 205 S. River St., Newcomerstown.

Walkers welcome

The Newcomerstown High School hallways are available for anyone interested in walking in the mornings from 5 to 7 a.m. The Beaver Street doors will be unlocked at 5 a.m.

East School seeks volunteers

The Newcomerstown East Elementary School is looking for volunteers from the community to come in and help with teachers and students. Volunteers would be helping with AR tests, clerical items, etc. Call 498-6601 or stop by the East School office for more information.

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newcomerstown is a collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
