Spaghetti dinner

The Cuba Connection Team of Christ United Methodist Church will be hosting a spaghetti dinner as a fund-raiser on Saturday, May 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. Bluegrass music will be performed by the Chestnut Hill Band from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 children and children 5 and under eat free. Pastor Jose Luis and wife, Mercedes, from Cuba will be special guest. Contact Christ UMC at 498-8134 to reserve tickets. Carry-outs are available.

Kindergarten registration make-up day

If you missed kindergarten registration in April, you can still register your child on May 28 here at East School. You will need to bring the child's Social Security card, birth certificate, shot records and any custody papers, if applicable. This will be by appointment only. Call East School at 498-6601 to schedule a time.

One-hour delay set

WEST LAFAYETTE -- Ridgewood Local Schools will be hosting a one-hour professional development and staff recognition inservice on Tuesday, May 5. Therefore, the school district will be operating on a one hour delay.

West School Field Day

The West School will have their Field Day on Friday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at both playgrounds at West School. There will be shuttle runs, obstacle course, softball throw and many other fun events. Volunteers are needed.

Baked steak 'Relay' benefit

A baked steak dinner will take place at April's Country Kitch'n to benefit Relay For Life on Sunday, May 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $6 per person. The menu includes baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, dessert and a beverage. Carry-out will also be available. There will be a raffle held with drawings done every 30 minutes that day.

Retirement dinner

The Newcomerstown Teachers' Association will have its annual retirement dinner on Saturday, May 30 at Christ UMC in the River of Life Center. At 6 p.m. there will be a social time and appetizers. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by recognition of new retirees, awards and more. Any Newcomerstown schools' retirees or employees wanting to attend can send reservations to Bev Darr at the Newcomerstown East School. The cost of the dinner is $20 per person. Deadline for reservations is Friday, May 15.

Blood drive

There will be a Newcomerstown community blood drive on Wednesday, May 20 from noon to 6 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Newcomerstown. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.

Newcomerstown's Cy Young Days Festival is scheduled for June 26-28 in the village. A new queen's competition will be June 25.

Newcomerstown TOPS

Newcomerstown TOPS OH No. 1378 meets every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak St., Newcomerstown. Weigh-in is from 5:15 to 6 p.m. with the meeting to start at 6:15 p.m.

U.S. Census workers

The News has learned that U.S. Census Bureau workers may be or have been in the village of Newcomerstown requesting information from residents. The Newcomerstown Police Department wanted residents to be aware.

Walkers welcome

The Newcomerstown High School hallways are available for anyone interested in walking in the mornings from 5 to 7 a.m. The Beaver Street doors will be unlocked at 5 a.m.

East School seeks volunteers

The Newcomerstown East Elementary School is looking for volunteers from the community to come in and help with teachers and students. Volunteers would be helping with AR tests, clerical items, etc. Call 498-6601 or stop by the East School office for more information.

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newcomerstown is a collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
