Church offering free seminar via satellite

Christ United Methodist of Newcomerstown will be offering a free seminar via satellite on Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the River of Life Community Center entitled, "Peppermint-filled Piñata," featuring speaker Eric Bryant.

Often churches can become preoccupied with "surface ministry," teaching people to say the right things but missing opportunity for true connection and transformation. According to Bryant, co-author of the "Uprising Experience with Erwin McManaus," "Sometimes, what we offer as a church is missing what Jesus intended."

In this session, Bryant uses the metaphor of a piñata to help church leaders examine the ways their community responds to people of diverse cultures, philosophies and lifestyles. You'll learn principles for reaching, loving and serving people who, look, act and believe differently. As he said, "Too often the world around us is more aware of who we hate rather than who we love and how we love." Find out how to offer, not just something that is sweet to believe in, but truly transformational. During this one hour session, you will learn how to recognize the importance of meeting needs, develop authentic relationships and the value of allowing people to belong, to feel loved, before they come to belief and transformation.

Christ United Methodist Church is located at 648 Oak St., Newcomerstown.
