Robert "Bob" and Eva M. (Grosenbacher) Shaffer are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on May 24, 2013, with an open house.
They were united in marriage 60 years ago on May 24, 1953, in the parsonage of the John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church in Gnadenhutten. The Rev. James F. Gross performed the wedding ceremony.
Bob served in the US Army Reserves from 1950 to 1952. He is a decorated Korean War veteran. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad/PennCentral/Conrail until he retired in 1990 after 40 years.
Eva worked at Montgomery Wards until they decided to start a family. She then became a full-time mother and homemaker.
They raised five children, Susan (Vernon) Dunlap, David Shaffer, Glen (Diane) Shaffer, Rhea (Brett) Septer and Laura (Chris) Beans, who all still reside within 15 minutes of them. They have 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
An open house in their honor will take place May 25 at the Village Community Center, 212 Cherry St., Tuscarawas, from 2 to 5 p.m.
