They say that love is the greatest adventure. But sometimes adventures cost. A lot.
I'm not saying the journey isn't worth it. Marriage is a beautiful thing and it should start with having those who love and support you. And why not have a few pretty little bobbles around you too?
The average American spends $26,645 on a wedding according to costofwedding.com. Although most couples spend less than 10 thousand, not including the honeymoon.
The bigger the city, the bigger the bill it seems. New York City brides spend an average of $82,299 on weddings while brides in Chicago spend about $61,265. The cheapest state in the U.S. to get married in is Alaska, coming in at $17,361; according to a Cost of Wedding. Closer to home, Columbus ranks just above the national average at $27,059.
It seems that Guernsey County tends to stay well below the national average. Our county ranges anywhere from $11,000 and $19,000. The breakdown is fairly simple, the more guests you have, the more money you spend. Brides tend to be their own worst enemy when it comes to wedding costs.
So stick to the budget. Most wedding planners suggest using this breakdown of the budget: reception 48-50 percent; ceremony 2-3 percent; attire 8-10 percent; flowers, 8-10 percent; music/entertainment 8-10 percent; photography 10-12 percent; stationary 2-3 percent; wedding rings 2-3 percent; parking/transportation 2-3 percent; gifts 2-3 percent and miscellaneous 8 percent. Planners also suggestion leaving 5 percent for a "just-in-case" scenario.
Weddings do not have to be stressful, or drain your bank account. There are plenty of caterers, vendors, florist and photographers in the area who can help make your day perfect without breaking into your piggy bank.
