Members of the Newcomerstown High School Class of 1957 recently joined together to celebrate 60 years since they graduated.

Their commencement was held at the former High School auditorium (now the Middle School) on Tuesday, May 21, 1957 at 8 p.m., being the seventy-fifth class to graduate from NHS. The class's baccalaureate service was held the Sunday before graduation, on May 19. The class had 72 graduates. The senior class officers for the 1956-57 school year included; Jolene Shaw, President, Jack Wilson, Vice-President, Norma Hursey, Secretary, Vaughn Fairchild, Treasurer, Edna Heller and Jerry Myers, Social Chairmen.

On Saturday, August 12, 2017 members of the class met at the Olde Main Street Museum & Social Center, Newcomerstown, where 19 classmates and 11 spouses/guests visited and reminisced about the past 60 years. The class enjoyed a catered meal provided by Kevin & Erma Fenton. A memory table was decorated in the class's colors, mint green and white, and a vase of flowers included the class's flower, a mint green carnation. Class members enjoyed viewing photos of the class's past reunions, and reading letters sent by class members who were unable to attend. Class members attended from Canton, Groveport, and locally. There are 36 class members deceased.

Those attending the reunion were entertained by Chris Hart with a special reminiscence of Trojan twister tales from the 1950s. The reunion committee wished to recognize John Ourant of the Newcomerstown Historical Society for his assistance throughout the evening.

Class members later recalled some of their favorite teachers during their high school years, teachers included Mary Swigert, Alex Robertson, Bob Leonard and Gene Riffle. These teachers, all now deceased, had attended the class's past reunions and are greatly missed.

The class will continue having luncheons throughout the year with the next one to be held on Sept. 5, at noon at the Tents of Grace in Gnadenhutten.
