Decision on swimming pool bond issue pending

William Casteel/Newcomerstown News Published:

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The possible funding remedy to replace the village's swimming pool will possibly fall into place -- or not that is -- until at least Aug. 4.

West Lafayette village councilmembers agreed during the July 26 meeting to have a special session on that date at 4 p.m. to make a decision on whether the swimming pool bond issue will be added to the November ballot. The plan is to add 5.5 percent interest during a 30-year period (to create the levy milage) to pay for the $600,000 that has been estimated to replace the structure.

Village Administrator Dave Kadri later said the village already has debt related to the water plant upgrades ($300,000) and is hoping to purchase of a new fire engine ($400,000) within the following year.

Other items discussed by council included:

* The 2011 village budget has been submitted to the Coshocton County Auditor. A budget review meeting will take place at the auditor's office on Aug. 3 at 3:30 p.m.

* The benefits and pay schedule for village employees was amended to define a paid holiday as an eight hour work day.

Council's next regular meeting will be Aug. 9.
