Lighting contest

The deadline for the Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce's first ever Holiday Lighting Contest has been extended until Wednesday, Dec. 19. To submit your Newcomerstown area home in the contest, send $5 to the Necomerstown Chamber of Commerce, 137 W. Main St., Newcomerstown, OH 43832.

Toys for Local Tots donations

Monetary donations are being sought for the Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce's annual Toys for Local Tots program.

Last year, the organization was able to give holiday gifts to some 200 children in the Newcomerstown area.

Donations may be dropped off at the Huntington National Bank or mailed to the Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 456, Newcomerstown, OH 43832.

Holiday Luncheon planned

WEST LAFAYETTE -- Reservations for Ridgewood's Senior Citizen Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 13 are being sought.

Ridgewood area senior citizens can call the high school office at 545-6345 to make their reservations for the Holiday Luncheon.

Festivities begin Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. in the auditorium with the production of "FrUitTCakes" by the Ridgewood Drama Team.

Health screening set

Medi-Wise Pharmacy in Newcomerstown will offer a free blood pressure, total cholesterol and blood glucose screening on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Santa coming to pharmacy

Santa will be at Medi-Wise Pharmacy in Newcomerstown on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Get a free 4x6 photo with you kids. The photo with be available the following Tuesday for pick-up.

'FrUiTCakes' to be performed

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The Ridgewood Drama Team is performing "FrUiTCakes" on Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the high school.

According to Dramatic Publishing, the play is described as, "Mix together a batch of fruitcakes, three dozen Christmas trees, 10,000 outdoor Christmas lights, a chicken pox epidemic, two southern spinsters, an estranged old man, a lost cat named Tutti Frutti and a Christmas hog named Buster and you've got the recipe for a fun filled and touching evening filled with holiday cheer. Into this world comes Jamie, a kid who has run away from home and come as far as his money will take him. At first, he thinks this town's inhabitants are "nuttier than fruitcakes," but soon he comes to admire, appreciate and adore this nutty little town. A moving story of alienation, understanding and reconciliation, 'FrUiTCaKeS' provides audiences with a heaping helping of holiday warmth and Christmas cheer."

Holiday Buffet set

NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Culinary Arts annual Holiday Buffet will be Friday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Buckeye Career Center, New Philadelphia.

Menu includes a cold buffet consisting of mixed greens, cold salads, fresh baked rolls and sweet breads, assorted pies, cakes and cookies and the hot buffet which includes roast turkey and dressing, beef stroganoff, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes/gravy and corn o'brien.

The cost of the buffet for adults is $8 and children under 12 are $5 with beverages included. While reservations are not required, they are suggested. Call 330-339-2288, ext. 256.

Quilting in museum

The Newcomerstown Quilting Bees will be working on the Community Quilt in the Temperance Tavern Museum on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. All are welcome to help. For information, call Gladys Hinds at 498-6240.

Christ's Kitchen

Christ's Kitchen, located in the Fellowship Hall of the Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown, serves dinner from 4 to 6:15 p.m. every Monday. The dining room is open from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The meal is free but donations are accepted.

The church is located at 648 Oak St., Newcomerstown.

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Bob Pell's Nationwide Insurance office, located at 117 N. Bridge St., Newcomerstown, is a new collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Items may still be donated at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, also in Newcomerstown. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
