The Newcomerstown Senior Center, 222 S. Bridge Street, offers Tai Chi (pronounced TIE-CHEE) classes on most Fridays that have become very popular with local residents. Tai chi helps reduce stress, anxiety and increases flexibility, balance.
Tai chi was originally developed for self-defense and then evolved into a graceful form of exercise that is used for stress reduction and a number of other health conditions. It is often described as meditation in motion. It promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The series of movements are performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.
