It will be the last hurrah at the "Castle in the Country" as pottery artist Tom Radca will host the final open house featuring his renowned pottery on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 12-13-14, at his farm near Peoli.

"When my family and I moved to the farm in 1982, we moved into what many people saw as a shack," Radca recalled. "My late wife, Terry, and I saw the potential for this place and made all the necessary changes to make it our home.

"We immediately joined a tree planting program, planting 3,000 trees a year for six years: red oak, white oak, green ash, tulip poplar and white pine. As a result, the Radca Ranch has a selection of natural trails, meandering for walking and hiking. It's a great feeling to look out onto the farm and see all of those trees every day.

"Thanks to Mr. Larson of the Larson Clay Plant of Gndenhutten, who part-sold, part-traded me for five semi loads of wood, we were able to add on an addition which became the master bedroom and master bathroom as well as a utility room.

"For over 15 years, I made my pots in the old barn on the property, which was built in 1836. I finally built a new studio a few years ago that is air-tight and warm, a pleasure to work in year-round.

"A friend had told me that the little 'shack' on the ranch was "a castle in the country' and make changes when I could. Over the last 35 years I have done just that and have enjoyed the privilege of living here as well as sharing it."

Radca said he is moving to Palidase, Colorado, where his wife, Betsy, recently built a home.

"All the good peaches and grapes are grown there," Radca said. "The landscape is a reflection of the beautiful home and wife that are waiting for me in Colorado.

"We are asking all of our friends, who have supported us over the past three decades, to come to the Radca Ranch for one more open house. We have 7,000 square feet of move out of and lots of work that we can't take with us."

The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each of the three days. The Radca Ranch is located at 15216 Grove Road, Port Washington. For more information, call Radca at 740-498-4303 or visit his website, www.tomradca.com.
