With "Old Glory" waving in a bright blue sky, Newcomerstown was presented another piece of history on Tuesday, the Fourth of July.
Through efforts of Roger Seitz of Baker's IGA and Denny Ross and the rest of the Newcomerstown Honor Guard and American Legion, a new 12x18 flag was dedicated at Cy Young Park on July 4. The new flag flies atop a new 60 foot flagpole, located near the Cy Young Monument and the baseball fields at Cy Young Park.
"I was honored to a part of the ceremony," Mayor Pat Cadle said. "Roger Seitz and Denny Ross organized the entire process from beginning to end. As usual, when these two are involved, something excellent comes forth for our community. Blaine and Brian Little donated their time and equipment and made the raising of the 2,000 pound pole (donated by Clows of Coshocton) look easy. There were many contributors and the village thanks all of them for providing something more for Newcomerstown to be proud of."
Michael Wise, Cy Young Park director, also commented on the value of the project.
"We all can be proud of the new flag and flagpole at Cy Young Park for many patriotic reasons," Wise said. "But I am especially proud because of my hometown. I have seen so many individuals and organization come together and freely give their time, their money and other resources to help make our park and our entire community a better place. People care about our little town and its residents. We tirelessly work together for improvements to put our community on the path to a better tomorrow. We work to offer our youth a brighter future. And we are not just the home of Cy Young and other greats from the past. We are also the home of future greatness. We are Newcomerstown."
