Chicken dinner

The Newcomerstown Historical Society will host its annual chicken barbecue dinner, one of its big fundraisers of the year, Friday, July 21, from 4-7 p.m. On the menu is one-half oven barbecued chicken, baked beans, potato salad, roll, drink, and a homemade dessert, all for $10. The old-time country band, "The Roy McFarland Revue," will play from 5-7 p.m. (hint: "Roy McFarland" is Ray McFadden's stage name ). To get tickets, call 740-498-7735 or stop in at the Main Street Gift Shop on Thursday or Friday from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m.

Golf Scramble

The Newcomerstown Football Golf Scramble will be held Saturday, July 28, at the River Greens Golf Course with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $200 for a four-member team for 18 holes of golf followed by a meal. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin, longest drive and there will be cash and door prizes. Special Olympics

NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Tuscarawas County Special Olympics will host an Information Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22 by the food court at the New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia. Special Olympics athletes are scheduled to be in attendance. Participants can learn what sports are offered and how to get involved with the Tuscarawas County Special Olympics.

Road closed

Beginning Monday, July 17, SR 541 will be closed approximately two miles west of SR 93 and a half mile east of Township Road 124 while ODOT crews work on replacing two culverts. Crews will work from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, the road will be closed for the duration of the project. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the day Friday, July 28, weather permitting. For a detour, motorists can use SR 93 north to US 36 west, to SR 541.

Vacation Bible School

"Over the Moat -- Drawbridge to the King! Vacation Bible School will be at First Baptist Church, 688 East Main St., West Lafayette, July 31 - Aug. 4. from 6-8 p.m. for ages 3 through grade 6. West Lafayette council committee meetings will include: July 19, Buildings & Property 5 p.m. and Ordinance, 6 p.m.; July 24, Public Hearing regarding An Ordinance to Amend Chapter 152 of the Zoning Code and An Ordinance to Permit Hobbyist/ Recreational Apiculture Within the Village of West Lafayette at 6 p.m.; August 14, Finance 6:30 p.m.
