Sixteen girls from Flip-N-Out Gymnastics represented Tuscarawas, Coshocton, Muskingum, and Guernsey counties at the AAU National Gymnastics Competition at Kingsport, Tennessee from June 22-24.
Two individuals returned to Ohio with gold medals and National Championships for their level and age group on a specific apparatus.
Sarah McPherson of Kimbolton achieved her National Championship on the Level 6 vault with a score of 9.337.
Elena Cadle of Newcomerstown repeated as Level 6 National Champion on the balance beam for the second year with a score of 9.45 on the balance beam.
Other medalists with a Silver (second place) or Bronze (third place) finishes were: Autumn Joyce of Kimbolton with a second place (9.45) in vault; Gracie Jackson (9.3) of Cambridge and Shea Wagner (9.225) of Conesville scored third place finishes in the vault; Sunny Maple of West Lafayette received a bronze medal (9.525) in the uneven bars while Kenleigh Hatcher of Zanesville scored a third place bronze (8.8) with her floor routine; Shea Wagner of Conesville had a silver medal for her second place (9.45) finish for her floor routine.
Another trophy brought back to Ohio was by Senior Lexi Leasure. She received one of the 10 competitive AAU scholarships awarded at the opening ceremony to the senior athletes. Lexi was a National Champion on the uneven bars in 2016.
There are four pieces of equipment for medal competition the balance beam, uneven bars, vault, and the floor exercise. Medals are awarded for the overall scores of the four apparatus events together. The Flip-N-Out girls brought home nine top three place medals including a third place overall bronze medal by Kate McConnell of New Philadelphia for an All-Around score of 36.375, scoring over 9.0 in every event. The Nationals Competition consists of gymnasts who had to qualify from all over the United States to compete at Levels 2-8.
Flip-N-Out Gymnastics is located on State Route 93 outside of Plainfield, Ohio. The gymnastic program has produced six National Champions over the past three years.
