From the hills of Appalachia in eastern Kentucky, hear the Pure Kentucky Sound of the Kevin Prater Bluegrass Band. They will be presenting a program of gospel music on Sunday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Wesley Community Chapel located at 17333 Chapel Road in Newcomerstown. Hear some a capella hymns along with old gospel favorites.

Kevin began his musical voyage at the age of four, where he received encouragement and mentoring from his Uncle Boone Estep. When he was 10, he formed his first band, "Elkhorn Grass," which toured together for 11 years. Since then, Kevin has traveled millions of miles and visited 49 states and 23 countries.

While Kevin plays his own style of music, he has been influenced by a variety of bluegrass greats. These five friends that comprise the Bluegrass Band enjoy spreading their special bluegrass sound. Their main goal is to entertain the audience, as their fans are what's most important.

Kevin Prater plays the mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass and dobro, while handling much of the lead singing. Joining him are Danny Stiltner on bass, Tom Timberlake on guitar, Jake Burrows on banjo and his brother, Adam Burrows, playing fiddle. Their album,"Were You There," provides a great selection of gospel hymns and features some of their best vocal work ever. "All I Ever Wanted" is their latest album.

The band enjoys traveling, reconnecting with old friends and making new fans along their journey. They encourage area residents to attend their concert on Sunday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Wesley Community Chapel in Newcomerstown. They hope everyone will enjoy their gospel music.
