Indian Valley boys beat Newcomerstown in overtime; Ridgewood wins opener

NEWCOMERSTOWN-- After Newcomerstown High rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime, visiting Indian Valley gained a 10-7 edge in the extra session to claim a season-opening 65-62 victory on Friday.

The Trojans led 11-9 after one quarter, but the Braves used a 16-14 edge in the second round to pull even at the half, 25-all.

Indian Valley then posted a 21-15 advantage in round three to move on top 46-40, but Coach Danny Weekley's Trojans gained a 15-9 edge in the fourth to send the game to OT knotted at 55-all where the Braves gained their 10-7 edge to pull out the win.

Indian Valley's Shawn Mills poured in 27 points to lead all scorers, hitting 9-of-12 field goals including a trio of three-pointers and 6-of-6 at the free throw line. His top support came from Jamie MacAdam with 12 while Brett Cox netted 10; Brady Byers had eight and Bryce Allensworth had seven.

The Braves were 25-of-63 from the field and 9-of-11 at the charity stripe with 33 rebounds and 11 turnovers. Cox collected 11 boards while Brady Byers and MacAdam each had five. Mills contributed five steals and three assists.

For Newcomerstown, five players reached double-digits led by Hunter Sneary, Austin King and Jacob Rine with 12 apiece while Austin Zufelt and Jordani Wharff each had 11.

The Trojans canned 25-of-69 action shots and 8-of-16 at the charity stripe with 41 caroms and 15 miscues. Wharff landed 10 rebounds, Sneary had eight and Rine added six.

WEST LAFAYETTE -- Led by a big 24-point effort from senior Zak Keesee the Ridgewood Generals disposed of visiting People's Baptist to open the season on Friday.

Keesee's big night included a pair of thee-pointers and a 4-of-5 effort from the charity stripe for the Generals. Dillion McPherson added double figure support with 15 points, including a trio of three-point makes and junior Ryan Lowe just missed double figures with nine points.

Tevin Harding pumped in 20 points to pace People's Baptist, with Emarde Adkins chipping in with 12 points.
