NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Visiting Malvern High got off to a good start, taking a 15-6 lead after the initial quarter, then maintained that margin throughout Tuesday's Inter-Valley Conference game and posted a 59-48 road win over host Newcomerstown.
Although the Trojans played the guests nearly even over the final three frames, the first period deficit could not be erased.
Malvern (4-2, 3-2 IVC) posted a 21-17 advantage in made field goals and a 16-10 edge in successful free throws.
The Hornets' Max Kapron led all players with 23 points. He was joined in double figures by mates Trey Tucci and Nick Mohr with 12 and 11, respectively.
Newcomerstown (2-4, 1-3 IVC) received 13 points from Austin King, 11 from Chance Bower and nine from Hunter Snearey. The Trojans drilled four "treys" during the contest.
DANVILLE --Visiting Ridgewood High dropped a 67-51 decision to Danville on Tuesday.
Danville jumped to an 18-12 first quarter lead and increased the margin to 28-21 by halftime before exploding with a 21-7 edge in the third quarter to put the game away at 49-28 heading to the final frame.
Bryce Staats led Danville with 28 points while Andy Payne had 15 points and Ridge Durbin added 14.
Dillion McPherson scored 23 points, Zak Keesee added 19 and Ryan Lowe had nine for Ridgewood.
