Indian Valley 47, Steubenville 23
GNADENHUTTEN -- Host Indian Valley High dominated Steubenville Catholic Central in a 47-23 rout on Wednesday.
The Lady Braves outscored the Lady Crusaders in every quarter and carried a commanding 26-14 advantage into halftime.
Following the break Indian Valley posted a 15-9 scoring edge in the third quarter and a 6-0 run in the final eight minutes to claim the victory.
Karissa Bardall earned the game-high scoring honors with 15 points including a trio of three-pointers to go along with three rebounds, three steals and three assists followed by Megan Baker with nine markers and Kitanna Rakestraw added eight points in the win.
Leading the way for the Crusaders Brittany Bertoia tallying seven points while Gabby Capaldi added five points and Julia Zatta tacked on four points in the setback.
NEWCOMERSTOWN -- A slow first half for host Newcomerstown High resulted in a 34-24 setback to Inter-Valley Conference opponent Strasburg High in girls basketball action on Wednesday night.
The Lady Tigers jumped to an early 12-6 advantage after the first quarter of play and cushioned their lead with a 10-5 spot in the second round to carry a 22-11 lead into the halftime intermission.
Following the break, both teams played even in the third stanza each scoring six but Newcomerstown sliced a little off its deficit in the final eight minutes with a 7-6 scoring edge but it was not enough to complete a come from behind victory.
Brea Garretson paced the Lady Trojans' (1-15) offense with eight points while Jade Johnson tallied six points and Maddie Fish added five markers.
Alyssa Sims carried the load for the Lady Tigers (4-12) with a game-high 19 points followed by Zoey Thomas with six counters.
East Canton 55, Nc'town 20
EAST CANTON -- Visiting Newcomerstown High dug itself an early hole and suffered a 55-20 setback at the hands of Inter-Valley Conference foe East Canton on Saturday.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 17-4 lead after the first quarter and continued to assert their dominance in the second round with a 17-5 edge to carry a 34-9 lead into halftime.
Jabria Knight recorded 14 first-half points for East Canton and Savannah Yacklin scored 10 of her 11 points in the opening half while Amaris Well scored six of Newcomerstown's nine first-half points.
Following the break, the Lady Hornets sealed the deal by outscoring the Lady Trojans 11-5 in the third stanza and 11-6 in the final eight minutes to claim the IVC victory.
Wells paced the Lady Trojans (1-16, 1-10, IVC) with a team-high nine points while Brittney Lowry chipped in five counters.
East Canton's (4-13, 2-9 IVC) attack was led by Knight with a game-high 16 points while Yacklin and Madison Blake each contributed 11.
Tusky Valley 53, Indian Valley 36
ZOARVILLE -- Host Tusky Valley's 20-3 first-quarter scoring edge proved to be too much for visiting Indian Valley High to come back from in a 53-36 setback in Principal's Athletic conference girls basketball action on Saturday night.
Following the lopsided first quarter, the Lady Trojans added to their already commanding lead with a 17-10 scoring edge over the Lady Braves in the second quarter giving them a 37-13 halftime lead.
Both teams put up 11 spots in the third quarter and the Lady Braves shaved seven points off their deficit in the final quarter with a 12-5 advantage but it was not nearly enough to complete the comeback and suffered the PAC loss.
Leading the way for Indian Valley was Megan Baker with seven points while Bayli Connor, Kitanna Rakestraw and Alisha Garabrant all tacked on six points.
The Lady Trojans' offensive attack was paced by Kierrah Stewart with a game-high 16 points followed by Abby Dillon with nine and Kayla Hall added eight points in the winning effort.
