IV baseball team puts together a solid week

Indian Valley 1

GNADENHUTTEN -- Behind a complete-game effort from pitcher Cade Williams and a score on a passed ball, host Indian Valley picked up a 1-0 sectional victory over St. Clairsville High on Tuesday.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Karson Hartrick scored on a passed ball, and that was just enough for the Braves to sneak away with the victory.

Williams hurled a dandy for Indian Valley shutting out the Red Devils while limiting them to only four hits.

Pacing the Braves' offense was Braeden Lehigh with a double and Kyle Enos with a pair of base hits.

In the other D-II Sectional Final game, No. 11 River View upset No. 2 Minerva 3-2.

Indian Valley and River View will square off in the District semi-finals on Monday with a site yet to be determined.

River 12

Newcomerstown 4

HANNIBAL -- Host River High capitalized on six errors by the visiting Newcomertown Trojans to post a 12-4 Division IV Sectional Tournament win Tuesday and advance to district action.

The Pilots jumped on Newcomerstown starter Joel Ebersbach in the second inning for four runs and, after the Trojans got one back in the top of the third, River struck again for two more runs prompting a pitching change for the Trojans with George Brode coming on.

Newcomerstown cut into the deficit in the fourth inning with a pair of runs, but the Pilots responded with two in the fifth to keep the margin at 8-3.

The Trojans (4-14) scored a final run in the sixth when catcher Braden Russell went "yard", but it was too little, too late as the Pilots erupted for four more tallies the bottom of the sixth to provide the 12-4 final.

"We had a lot of defensive miscues," Newcomerstown coach Robb Hendershot admitted. "That gift-wrapped it up for them."

It didn't help any that the Trojans added to the six errors with a total of 13 walks.

Ebersbach had no strikeouts and five walks, while Brode added three Ks and eight free passes. Lukas Isaly garnered the mound win for River, fanning 12 and walking four. Younger brother Trey Isaly came on in the sixth and added two strikeouts.

The Pilots (14-5) out hit Newcomerstown, 7-6, paced by Chase Wichterman with a double and two singles with catcher Hunter Dennis adding a double and single good for three RBI. Lukas Isaly helped his cause with a double and scored twice.

Russell paced the six-hit Newcomerstown attack with his late-game homer, with Brode adding a double and single.

Wooster Triway 4

WOOSTER -- Cade Williams scored on a sacrifice fly by Colbey McBeth in the top of the ninth inning as the visiting Indian Valley Braves completed a comeback to claim a 5-4 win over the Wooster Triway Titans in Principal's Athletic Conference action Friday.

Wyatt Garabrandt picked up the pitching win for the Braves while Dylan Allison absorbed the hard-luck loss for the Titans.

Indian Valley (15-9, 10-4 PAC) out hit Triway 11-8 led by Williams with three singles, while McBeth and Brennon O'Connor added two singles each.

Ridgewood 8, Garaway 3

SUGARCREEK -- Visiting Ridgewood build an 8-2 lead and held off the host Garaway Pirates for a 8-3 Inter-Valley Conference win Friday.

The General took a 4-0 edge in the top of the second, but Garaway answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Ridgewood then put up two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to build to the 8-2 edge before the Pirates pushed across a single run in the bottom of the seventh to provide the 8-3 final.

Kolton Alexander was the Ridgewood starter and picked up the win on the mound fanning four and walking three. He had relief help from Brice Dennis and Kaden Smith with the duo adding no strikeouts and four walks. Garaway starter Peyton Miller took the loss with two strikeouts and three free passes with Quinn Miller coming on in relief the final two innings and adding one strikeout and one walk.

Ridgewood banged out eight hits with Jarett Slusser collecting three singles, while Keith Leindecker added a double. Garaway collected five hits paced by Trey Hershberger with a pair of singles.

Indian Valley 11

Tuslaw 0

MASSILLON -- In a regular season Principal's Athletic Conference contest Monday, the visiting Indian Valley Braves got by the Massillon Tuslaw Mustangs by a 11-0 shutout to improve to 12-9 overall and 8-4 in PAC play.

Wyatt Garabrandt was the winning hurler for the Braves who collected 10 hits with Cade Williams delivering three singles, while Colbey McBeth added a pair of singles.

With the loss, Tuslaw drops to 3-19 overall and 1-12 in the PAC.

Indian Valley 1, Tuslaw 0

GNADENHUTTEN -- Host Indian Valley High escaped with a slim 1-0 victory over Tuslaw High in Principal's Athletic Conference regular season baseball action on Wednesday.

The lone run of the game was scored in the fifth inning when Cade Williams hit a sacrifice fly scoring Kyle Enos.

Koby Shepard earned the pitching win for Indian Valley while DJ Hoiles accepted the loss for the Mustangs.

With the win, the Braves improved to 14-9 overall and 9-4 in the PAC while the Mustangs fell to 3-21 overall and 1-13 in the PAC.
