NEWCOMERSTOWN -- The East Canton boys and Garaway girls came out on top in Friday's Inter-Valley Conference Track Championships hosted by Newcomerstown High.
The host Trojans finished fifth in the boys' meet and seventh in the girls' meet, while the Generals took the runner-up spot in boys action the the Lady Generals finished in third place.
In the boys' meet, East Canton breezed to the team title with 217.5 points to 125 for runner-up Ridgewood. Garaway (93.5) took third followed by Hiland (66), Newcomerstown (51), Sandy Valley (50), Malvern (29), Strasburg (12) and Tusky Catholic (12).
In the girls' meet, Garaway prevailed with 157 points to 113 for runner-up East Canton. Ridgewood (107.5) placed third followed by Tusky Catholic (88), Malvern (63), Sandy Valley (54.5), Newcomerstown (44), Hiland (28) and Strasburg (6).
The highlight for the Newcomerstown boys came in the pole vault where Ryan Stevens turned in a meet-record winning effort of 15 feet, 1 inch.
Other individual placers for the Troojans were Dylan Garretson (2nd in pole vault, 13-6); Hunter Garretson (5th in 110 hurdles, 17.84; 5th in 300 hurdles, 44.15); Anthony Sanders (6th in 800, 2:14.69); Brandon Moore (7th in 200, 25.19); and Daniel Russell (8th in discus, 103-10).
NHS relay efforts included: 4x100 team of Moore, Chace Bryant, Noah Creager and Ryan Stevens (4th in 48.74); 4x200 team of Moore, Dylan Donathan, Wyatt Connor and Hunter Garretson (4th in 1:40.42); 4x400 team of Donathan, Creager, Norman and Hunter Garretson (4th in 3:48.61); 4x800 team of Sanders, Brody Lehman, Tanner Norman and Jacob Robinson (5th in 9:29.42).
For the Newcomerstown girls, the individual place-winners were Jade Johnson (2nd in discus, 110-5); Kim Halsey (3rd in pole vault (8-6); Erin Lynch (4th in long jump, 14-9); Trew Davis (5th in 3200 (13:24.91); Jade Johnson (5th in shot put, 31-8.5); Amaris Wells (5th in 100 (13.91); and Destiny Grewell (8th in 100 hurdles, 18.76).
NHS relay efforts included: 4x100 team of Wells, Lynch, Grewell and Halsey (5th in 56.2); 4x800 team of Katelyn Glazer, Davis, Azure Kitzmann and Savannah Shugars (6th in 12:13.8); 4x200 team of Wells, Glazer, Kitzmann and Lynch (6th in 2:01.0); and 4x400 team of Glazer, Kitzmann, Grewell and Lynch (7th in 5:00.48).
Anthony Harmon paced the Ridgewood boys with a win in the discus with a throw of 131-03 and he was also seventh in the shot put with a heave of 37-09.75.
Other individuals scoring for the Generals were: Michael Kelly (2nd in 400-meter dash, :52.53); Jhett Slusser (2nd in 300-meter hurdles, :42.47) and (3rd in 100-meter dash, :11.65); Javon Merril (3rd in 200-meter dash, :23.46) and (3rd in long jump, 18-01.25); Jason Stubbs,( 4th in 110-meter hurdles, :17.47); Fred Doberstein (4th in 1600-meter run, 4:57.17) and (7th in 3200-meter run, 11:27.62); Nathanie Thompson (4th in discus, 111-01) and (4th in shot put, 39-04); Silas Bassett (5th in pole vault, 11-00); Blake Craigo (5th in 100-meter dash, :11.79); Xavier Kelley (4th in high jump, 5-08), (5th in 200-meter dash, :24.35) and (6th in long jump, 16-11.50); Ian Schwab (6th in 110-meter hurdles, :17.93), (6th 300-meter hurdles, :44.23) and (7th in pole vault, 6-06); Trevor Hawkins (6th in 3200-meter run, 10:42.64) and Jacob Evin (8th in 400-meter dash, :56.21).
Also scoring for Ridgewood was the 4x200-meter relay (Kelly, Craigo, Slusser, Merril) in 2nd (1:32.45); the 4x100-meter relay (Kelly, Craigo, Merril, Slusser), in 2nd (:45.04); 4x800-meter relay (Hawkins, Tyler Caudy, Doberstein, Evin) in 3rd (8:55.89) and the 4x400-meter relay (Schwab, Kelley, Evin, CAudy) in 5th (3:49.14).
For the Lady Generals, Alexis Prater led the way with wins in the 100-meter hurdles (:14.95) and long jump (17-02) as well as second place finishes in the 100-meter dash (:12.69) as well as the 300-meter hurdles (:47.97).
Others placing for the Ridgewood girls were: Grace Gottwalt (3rd in 200-meter dash, :28.70), (4th in 100-meter hurdles, :17.09) and (4th in 100-meter hurdles, :51.09); Felicity Caudy (3rd in high jump, 4-06) and (8th in pole vault, 6-06); Abbey Kellish (3rd in long jump, 14-10.25) and (4th 100-meter dash (:13.51); Raquel Foster (5th in 200-meter dash, :29.28); Josey Lillibridge (5th in discus, 101-00); Kiana Bradford (5th in high jump, 4-04); Katherine Laitz (5th in pole vault, 7-06); Alex Incarnato (6th in 800-meter run , 2:51.07); Taylor Haarman (7th in discus, 98-04) and (8th in shot put, 28-11); Emily Kobel (8th in 3200-meter run, 16:49.09).
In relay races the Lady Generals 4x200-meter team (Caudy, Alexis Slusser, Foster, Bradford) was 3rd in 1:57.10, the 4x800-meter squad (Leitz, Rylee Young, Bryanne Webster) was 5th in 11:58.07, the 4x400-meter team (Young, Foster, Slusser, Incarnato) was 6th in 4:48.96) and the 4x100-meter team (Kellish, Gottwalt, Slusser, Foster) was 7th in :59.71.
