A new book that's set in Newcomerstown just may have the town talking.
Jonathon Standfield, a 2000 graduate of Newcomerstown High School, has written a horror/mystery fiction novel that is set in Newcomerstown. The book is called, "Morningstar."
The book jacket reads, "In 1953, in a quiet house in the country, something terrible happened. In 2007, Corey and Danielle Webster moved into that same house. Later that year, something terrible happened. What caused a normal 25-year-old woman to lose control of herself? What is the shocking secret of Morningstar?"
Standfield, who now resides in Port Washington and is a local law enforcement dispatcher, dreamed up the storyline back in 1998 as a movie. However, after some research, he scrapped the movie idea and decided on a novel.
"Movies are expensive so I decided on the book instead," he said.
He would write in his spare time and it took about 10 years to actually get pen to paper and finish the novel.
Standfield said readers will actually read about local Newcomerstown area sites and locations. The Newcomerstown Public Library, the Village Motel and The Newcomerstown News newspaper are all mentioned within the 124-page novel.
He said the book is available at online stores such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, as well as Waldenbooks in the New Towne Mall, New Philadelphia.
"I've always wanted to write a book," he said and went on to say that he plans on writing more. They, too, just may be set in little Newcomerstown, Ohio.
