Nc'town kindergarten registration set

Newcomerstown Schools' kindergarten registration has been set for April 15 and 16 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, corner of S. College and Canal streets, Newcomerstown.

Registration will be April 16 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5:30 p.m., and April 17 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2009. It is most important that all children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall come to registration. The child will be given a speech and hearing test, Brigance test and vision screening. Parents must bring immunization records, birth certificate, social security cared, and in case of a separation or divorce, parents must bring proof of custody. Registration will take some time so plan to bring your child when you have extra time.

It is their suggestion that you make registration a special day for your child. Parents sometimes fix the child's favorite meal that day, purchase a lunch box or take the child out for ice cream. This year, all children who attend registration will be given crayons, scissors, a pencil and glue stick for use at home. Parents will be given a Kindergarten Handbook and many suggestions to use to help children best prepare for entering school.

If you have questions about registration, call the East School office at 498-6601.
