With no contested races for the May 5 election, the State of Ohio has changed the "primary election" to that of a "special election."
And Newcomerstown residents will be asked to go to the polls for the Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District. The school district is asking voters in Tuscarawas County, as well as those in overlapping Guernsey and Coshocton counties, for a 7.7-mill renewal tax levy to re-start in 2010 and first due in 2011. The levy has been in effect for the past five years and this will be the first time the levy has been up for renewal.
The approximate 8-mill levy generates about $700,000 a year and is used for general operating expenses such as books, gasoline, heating costs, salaries for teachers, etc.
The polls are open Tuesday, May 5 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. All candidates seeking positions will be placed on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
