Nc'town Elks recognizes area youth

On May 3, the Newcomerstown Elks hosted a youth recognition dinner for students and their parents at the local lodge. Youth winners from the various youth activities were recognized for their accomplishments within various areas. The areas include Soccer Shoot, Student of the Month, Hoop Shoot and Americanism Essay. A total of 58 students and their parents attended the dinner. The Elks recognized the importance of developing strong leadership in our youth for generations to come. Youths receiving awards were as follows:

Girls' Hoop Shoot -- Olivia Brady, second place, 8 to 9 age group; Amber Mourer, first place, 8 to 9 age group; Kayla Sharier, second place, 10 to 11 age group; Morgan McDorman, first place, 10 to 11 age group; Mackenzie Kistler, second place, 12 to 13 age group; and Paige Lane, first place, 12 to 13 age group.

Boys' Hoop Shoot -- Hunter Mizer, second place, 8 to 9 age group; Palmer Erb, first place, 8 to 9 age group; Braeden Smith, second place, 10 to 11 age group; Cal Honabarger, first place, 10 to 11 age group; Ryan Lowe, second place, 12 to 13 age group; and Tevis Whitt, first place, 12 to 13 age group.

Americanism -- Jake Eckleberry, first place, seventh grade; Ashley Tolliver, second place, seventh grade; Tyler McCune, first place, fifth grade; Katie Markley, second place, sixth grade; Andrew Starkey, honorable mention, fifth grade; and Larissa Beitzel, honorable mention, seventh grade, first place in district competition.

Student of the Month -- Chelsea Bradford, Chase Addy, Taylor Buss, Chris Deal, Rashia Deskins, Sheila Gray, Amber Gibson, James (JP) Snyder and Ashley Stout.

Soccer Shoot -- Logan Smith, first place, seven and under for boys; Mackenzie Hursey, first place, 8 to 9 age group for girls; Mathew Hursey, first place, 12 to 13 age group for boys; and Daniel Meeks, first place, 10 to 11 age group for boys.
