Vane Scott, former president/founder and now curator and manager of the USS Radford National Naval Museum, announces they are ready to open for the 2009 season during the Grand Opening celebration May 28-29 of the Olde Main Street Museum and Social Center in Newcomerstown.

"We have added quite a few artifacts and things of interest," Scott said.

The USS Radford Association gathered in Newcomerstown last October 2008 at the Hampton Inn for their 17th annual National Reunion and spent much time at their museum and touring around the area taking in the sites and attractions.

Besides touring Dennison Depot and Warther's Museum, they enjoyed shopping time and food in Amish country. Included was a 30-car procession to the former National Treasurer and Secretary Barbara J. Scott's gravesite at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. She passed away unexpectedly May 7, 2008, before the reunion. A special service was performed that included two retired Navy Admirals.

"Barbara was instrumental in the founding of the association in 1991," Vane Scott said.

The reunion concluded with a sit-down dinner at the Olde Main Street Museum and Social Center where entertainment was provided by Roy McFarlane and the Country Boys.

Scott also said he is looking for a couple more volunteers to help keep the museum open during regular hours.

To volunteer, contact him at 498-8803.
