Vietnam Veterans elect officers for next year

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 532 met in regular session April 28.

President Dennis Ross began the meeting with The Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for fallen comrades. One chair was draped with the POW/MIA Flag in memory of those that have not returned.

Minutes and reports of the prior meeting were approved.

Election of officers for next year were conducted with the following being elected: Virgil Quillin, president; Harry Kenney, vice president; David Casteel, secretary; and Jim Everhart, treasurer.

Membership is now 55 members. In donations, $50 was donated to the Newcomerstown schools for the person who portrayed Abraham Lincoln at a recent assembly; and $100 was donated to the Sonshine Box organization for postage to continue sending boxes of useful items to our brave military personnel in combat areas.

Memorial Day activities were discussed.

The chapter is selling the Vietnam Moving Wall Patch for $5. Contact any member to purchase a patch. Members agreed to guard the moving Wall from 8 p.m. Aug. 7 until 9 a.m. Aug. 8.

The Wall will be located at Dennison.

President Ross reported the VVA is making 3,100 crosses for the Dennison Moving Wall activities. Awards were presented by Ross to David Casteel, Harry Kenney, John Buss, Paul Morrison, John Joyner, Marvin Garretson, Virgil Quillin, Jim Everhart and Leonard Cameron.

Scholarships were awarded to Zachary Page, Subrina Miller, Jamie Hopps and Tracie Kenney.
