If you're like the majority of older individuals, cleaning the gutters, painting fences, or trimming the shrubs can be a tiring or sometimes even next to impossible task.

Hopefully, COPS (Community Outreach Project Service) can solve some of your worries about getting these tasks and other small maintenance or repair projects completed.

COPS is led by local youth pastor Derek Hickman and has recently launched this new outreach ministry to serve the local community.

Adults and teens will work together to complete projects such as minor home repairs, and cleanup. The group will be available to local residents the first Sunday of every month for approximately three hours. The projects so far have been small scale clean up projects but the group is hoping to see projects evolve into some larger work opportunities.

In the past few months, the group has cleaned at Dick's Place to show their gratitude to Dick and Natalie Miller for opening their doors at the restaurant for free community meals on Monday evenings. COPS have also mowed the lawns of foreclosed homes to help improve the appearance of the village, as well as cleaned gutters, mulched and painted a fence for several community residents.

The COPS team members can be easily identified in the community, by their fluorescent, green T-shirts. They have recently received a small grant from the youth services fund of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church to purchase supplies and tools for this special ministry.

COPS are seeking more projects for the upcoming months, and are planning to work year round. The group is encouraging all residents that do not have the physical ability, or maybe no resources available, to complete minor tasks, or improvements to their homes or property, to call on them.

The group will also welcome any financial support or donations to keep the program viable.
