UHRICHSVILLE -- Former Gnadenhutten Historical Society member Barbara S. McKeown was killed in a head-on collision last Monday (Aug. 3). The crash injured her husband and sent two others to the hospital.

According to reports, Barbara McKeown, 67, of 1456 Roanoke Ave., Uhrichsville, was driving their 2008 Chevrolet car with her husband, Jack McKeown, 74, of the same address, near 2221 N. Water St. Ext., when a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban sport utility vehicle reportedly went left of center and collided with the McKeowns. The sport utility was driven by Arthur L. Bailey, 25, of 211 Trenton Ave., and had passenger Christopher N. Swain, 18, of 219 Trenton Ave., in the vehicle.

Barbara McKeown was pronounced dead at Twin City Hospital in Dennison. Her husband, was injured in the crash.

Bailey and Swain were treated for their injuries.

The McKeowns were actively involved in the Gnadenhutten Historical Society and the Gnadenhutten Historical Park museum that displays artifacts and history of the first settlement in Ohio dating back to 1792.

Jack McKeown is also a former longtime Gnadenhutten councilman.

The crash remained under investigation.
