KIMBOLTON -- A 13-year old Jefferson County boy was accidentally shot Friday (Aug. 14) afternoon at Grand Haven Resorts.

"It was truly an accident," said reporting officer Guernsey County Sheriff's Dep. Matt Scurlock.

Subsequently, he said, no charges were filed against the shooter, who was the boy's younger brother.

Scurlock said the Toronto boy was staying at the resort with his family. They are reportedly frequent visitors to the Rocky Fork Road getaway attraction.

The victim's younger brother, 6 or 7 years old, was shooting a privately-owned .22-caliber rifle at the resort's shooting range a few minutes before 5 p.m. The victim walked in front of his brother as he fired a round. The bullet struck and passed through his left forearm.

The victim was conscious and alert at the scene, Scurlock said. He was transported by his parents in a private automobile from the resort. They were met while en route by a crew from United Ambulance Service and completed the trip to the medical center, where the boy was treated and released.
