PORT WASHINGTON -- A black bear may have been spotted in Port Washington.

Port Washington Mayor Tom Gardner said someone returning from an Ohio State football game about 1 a.m. last Sunday morning may have spotted a black bear at Tony's Market at the dumpster.

Mayor Gardner wanted residents to be aware of the possibility of a black bear in the area.

Council also passed a motion to purchase a bullet proof vest that costs approximately $850.

Councilmember Lori Goettge said a health screening by Union Hospital will take place at the municipal building on Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Council passed a resolution accepting amounts and rates and certifying them to the Tuscarawas County Auditor.

Voting for both Port Washington and Salem Township precincts will be at the village fire station on Nov. 3.

Resumes for a fiscal officer and tax administrator will be accepted until Oct. 1.
