Football: Coach Jeff Cook's Trojans 4-1 on season after 22-20 win at Malvern (touchdowns scored by Jason Bryant and Tristan Mizer); Coach Terry Guilliams' Ridgewood Generals 4-1 on season with 21-0 win over Caldwell (touchdowns byJeremy Savage and Chris Alverson); Indian Valley Braves suffered their second consecutive one-point loss, losing to New Philadelphia 21-20.

TWENTY YEARS AGO - 1989

Hurricane Hugo caused billions of dollars in damages and killed more than 50 persons in South Carolina, Virginia, New York and the Caribbean. Former residents sharing their survival experiences with The Newcomerstown News were Priscilla (Yanai) Ashworth and family of Charleston, SC; Tara (Simmons) Goodwin and husband Rob of North Charleston, SC, and Ray and Carol Cramlet who had been vacationing at their Myrtle Beach mobile home.

Attendance down at Tuscarawas County Fair due to cooler temperatures and rain resulting from Hurricane Hugo.

Trojans 5-1 with 59-14 win over Buckeye Trail, and Indian Valley Braves defeated Tuscarawas Central Catholic 15-13. Carla McCrea crowned Ridgewood High queen and the Generals won the homecoming game 12-6 over Jewett-Scio.

Evelyn and Wally Curtiss of Curtiss Jewelry in Newcomerstown attended the Independent Jewelers Organization convention in Chicago and received a 10-year membership certificate and a gold and diamond pin for active involvement.

Baker's AG Foods official ribbon-cutting ceremony for new addition at the Newcomerstown store conducted by Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Baker, Chamber of Commerce president Gary King, and councilman Dennis Belle.

Locals Carl Lenzo, Bill Thompson, Richard and Bob Cornell, Harold Rivers, Skip Smith, Bruce Huffman, Gary Dyer and Jim Lineback went on a whitewater rafting expedition in West Virginia.

Newcomerstown defeated Indian Valley North Big Blue 14-8, and Trojans Randy McCune and Brad Nolan shared defensive player of the week honors, and Doug Bell, offensive honors.

Ridgewood 5-0 with 34-0 rout of Tuscarawas Valley as Jim Lee scored four touchdowns.

Indian Valley South lost to Garaway 42-16.
