Money Matters program to look at avoiding scamsNEW PHILADELPHIA -- The October Money Matters Program entitled, "Keeping It Safe: Avoid Scams," will take place on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Public Library System's Main Library in New Philadelphia.Scams come in many shapes and sizes, and can cost a bundle. In a time when people are faced with increased financial burden, scammers are becoming more and more creative. Participants will learn about warning signs so they can identify and avoid common financial scams. The session will also include discussion of laws that help to protect your finances.The Money Matters Program entitled, "Borrowing Basics," will be Thursday, Oct. 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Newcomerstown Public Library. At this class, participants will learn about basic concepts of credit including the cost and value of credit, when and how to use credit, and different types of loans.The programs are open to the public and free of charge regardless of age or income status.
