Nc'town man indicted with child rape
NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Tuscarawas County Grand Jury returned a six count indictment charging Levi J. Michael, 34, of 5116 Beagle Club Rd. SW, Newcomerstown, with six counts of rape, all felonies of the first degree.
Ryan Styer, Tuscarawas County Prosecuting attorney, said Oct. 29 the six counts involve three minor children and a continuing course of conduct since 2003.
Michael has been incarcerated at the Tuscarawas County Jail since Aug. 11 when he was arrested by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff.
If convicted, Michael could be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the state's burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Also, if convicted, the sentence will be determined by the court after review of the factors unique to this case.
