Newcomerstown Elks Hoop Shoot winners from Newcomerstown and Ridgewood school districts presented awards by Jim Conrad, Elks Exalted Ruler. Winners included Robb Hendershot, Nicholas Snell, Justin Burrier, Ben Hill, Terri Hamilton, Rachel Kehn, Maggie Nagle, Ryen Gress, Steffinee Powers, Kerrie Bahmer, Ashlee Moyer, Justin Dean.

Richard D. Smith recognized for 40 years service and membership in Newcomerstown Rotary Club.

Basketball: Trojan Matt Dansby scored 19 points in Newcomerstown's 61-56 win over Tusky Valley; Indian Valley defeated Claymont 60-57 in double overtime with Brave Aaron Haney scoring 20 points; Ridgewood lost to Hiland 65-56 and to Garaway 63-38.

TWENTY YEARS AGO -1990

Simonds Industries Inc., Newcomerstown, held its seventh annual Suggestion System-Cost Reduction banquet at David Barber Civic Center with 150 persons attending. Plaques awarded for 1989 implemented suggestions went to Earl McCormick, Montel Collins, Burris Gardner, Dave Koval, Loren Stout, Ron Burrier, Rick Harper, Mike Hart, Raymond Heston, Art Hursey, Robin Lippencott, Bob Myers, Larry Stocker and Bill Treat.

Basketball: Trojans won over Malvern 83-73 led by Ryan Nigro with 22 points; Ridgewood defeated Strasburg 77-54; Indian Valley lost to Claymont 68-52.

Married: Beth Ann Hart and Gregg Allen Machan, Oct. 14; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Jane) Martin, Xenia, formerly of Newcomerstown, 25th anniversary, Feb. 14; Mr. and Mrs. Denver (Betty) McMullen, Newcomerstown, 40th anniversary, Feb. 12.

THIRTY YEARS AGO - 1980

Clyde Barthalow, retired school teacher and administrator, named "Citizen of the Year" by Knights of Columbus.

Newcomerstown won at Ridgewood 62-58 and brought home the Orange and Black trophy. Trojans Tim Davis and Brad Lineback selected game MVPs.

Indian Valley South Rebels finished regular season 17-3 after defeating Strasburg 39-38 on final second shot by Rebel Kevin Gray.

Roger George, Newcomerstown, and Chester Mizer and Vernon Mutti, both Stone Creek, among Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau delegates attending 61st annual meeting of Ohio Farm Bureau Federation in Columbus.
