Bright colors and the bright smiles of children helped brighten the day for several hundred area residents who turned out for the Newcomerstown Public Library Style Show held Saturday, Feb. 27.

The library is trying to raise $270,000 towards paying off construction costs and to offset large funding cuts may by the state for local libraries.

Titled, "Our Library -- Always in Fashion," the show featured local children, teens and adults modeling everything from spring and summer clothes to vintage bridal dresses and swimwear.

Among the businesses providing fashions were:

* Elder Beerman at New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia.

* Walmart in New Philadelphia.

* Rainbow Party Rentals in New Philadelphia.

* The Deb Shop at New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia.

* Maurices at New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia.

* C.J. Banks and Christopher Banks at New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia.

* Bowman Sports Wear of Newcomerstown.

* Universe Bridal and Prom Superstore of West Lafayette.

Tammy Shinaberry of Newcomerstown coordinated the event. Announcers included Michelle Groves of the library staff, Dixie Dyer, Victoria Frank and Bonnie Burns. In addition, young dancers from Studio III danced a routine to, "You've Got the Cutest Little Baby Face," with local singer Cheryl Bordner then coming on to sing the song for those attending.

Hair styling was provided by Hair Port Barber Shop, Judie's Hair Care, System III Salon and T's Kut and Kurl, all of Newcomerstown.

Flowers for the models were provided by Heaven Scent Flowers & Gifts, Jen-Dee's Florals and Gifts, and Silkworm Flower Shop, also all of Newcomerstown.

Also providing assistance were Dave May of May Valley Floors in New

Philadelphia; Kohl's A-Team Volunteers of Kohl's in New Towne Mall, Morgan Health Mart Pharmacy in Newcomerstown, Paul Ne' Consignment Boutique in New Philadelphia and Pangrazio's Pizza and Spaghetti House in Dennison.

Upcoming fund-raising events for the Newcomerstown Public Library include a sports memorabilia auction on March 20, photos with the Easter Bunny on March 27, a "Literary Auction" on April 17, a Quilt Show on April 23-24 and an auction sponsored by the Newcomerstown Rotary Club on May 1.
