A well-known Newcomerstown man died March 20 near Smith Hill Road SW, Newcomerstown, after an accident with his all-terrain vehicle.
John M. Jones, 61, of 21441 County Road 106, Newcomerstown, was hauling a load of firewood on a trailer attached to a Polaris Sportsman ATV and was attempting to travel on the side of a hill when the ATV and trailer overturned.
The ATV then rolled about 25 feet down the hill before coming to rest on its side against some trees and on top of Jones. The Tucarawas County Sheriff's Department was notified of the accident when Jones's wife, Carolyn, became concerned after he did not return home.
Jones was a 1967 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and remained a life-long resident of Tuscarawas County.
He is being remembered as dedicating most of his life to serving the community in various ways as a local business owner, emergency technician and volunteer. He also founded the Newcomerstown Tree Service.
