What do "American Idol" and Newcomerstown have in common?

Most would say not much. But, this season -- season 9 -- Newcomerstown has a long-distance connection to one of the contestants.

Newcomerstown's own Ron James, who was the athletic director for Newcomerstown schools and former assistant football coach, has a connection to 20-year old Siobhan Magnus of Cape Cod, Mass.

Here's how to explain it -- James's brother's wife's niece is Magnus.

Magnus is one of only two female performers remaining in the show that will decide who will be America's next singing superstar. Recent "American Idol" winners have been Carrie Underwood, Kellie Clarkson and Kris Allen.

"American Idol" airs locally on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on Fox.
