Thanks to local donors, including the Newcomerstown Rotary Club and the Quilting Bees, the Newcomerstown Public Library has placed its first book order in over a year.

The order of 43 books and three DVDs is the first new order for materials the library has placed since March of 2009 due to cuts in library funding in Ohio.

The Newcomerstown Rotary Club donated $250 for children's books and the Quilting Bees make regular donations to the library from moneys collected by the quilting club. The quilters meet weekly in the library's annex. The Quilting Bees have raffled quilts, finished quilts and sold handmade items to raise funds for books. Other library patrons have donated what they could spare to make up the $587.45 the library spent on the new items.

"July is going to feel like Christmas when the new books arrive," said Linda Hren, Newcomerstown Public Library director.
