Toy program needs helpNiki WolfeNewcomerstown NewsThe need continues and funds aren't coming in as quickly. The Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce's Toys for Local Tots has almost doubled the number of participants in the program as compared to last year. Last year, a total of 88 children received toys through the program. This year, more than 150 children have signed up to receive a donation for Christmas presents this year."We are really experiencing a need this year," organizer Janet Chaney said. "More children have signed up for the program and we need more monetary donations."The program, which purchases toys (which the children ask for), uses only donated funds to purchase the toys. One hundred percent of the funds are used on the children. Everything donated to the program goes directly to helping a child in need have a present to open on Christmas morning. The application deadline was Dec. 14, however, the need continues and presents still need to be purchased. "Basically, what we need now is monetary donations," Chaney said. "We have received donated toys but we try to meet the specific needs of the children -- within reason. To do that, we need monetary donations to purchase these gifts."To send a monetary donation for the Toys for Local Tots program, please mail a check to: Toys for Local Tots, c/o Huntington Bank in Newcomerstown, 100 W.
